God recognizes that we will find ourselves at times in a situation where, although our inner attitude is not motivated by a lust for personal vengeance, peace will not be possible. Consequently, “peace” cannot always be the Christian response to the evil that men do. There are times when justice must be required and punishment enforced for crimes against the lives and property of others. This is why
